"Quemamé!" Its inspiration comes from the song of the same name by Bay Area artist La Doña. While the lyrics and meaning of this song lean more towards passion, love, and desire, the use of the phrase "Quemamé" (Burn Me) in this painting is more of a dare... It dares the viewer to "expose you" or "vilify you". It's this sliver of time where you may have done something wrong, and now you fully accept your toxic behavior in a previous situation and are completely set free because of it. Like a forest, sometimes a new life for us can only happen when something has been burned away. In this case, it's shame, anxiety, pride, and anything that stops you from completely healing. In this piece, La Brujita in this painting knows that she has terrorized the townfolk. And here, her radical acceptance of her role in those events is truly what sets her free in the end. Will she start to terrorize the townfolk again after this? Probably, haha!
